The objective is to gather information that supports initiatives and public tools aimed at fostering suppliers within the green hydrogen value chain, specifically in the Magallanes Region and the Chilean Antarctic.

This study, part of the Pacto de Magallanes, is being facilitated by the Ministry of Economy, Development, and Tourism through the Sustainable Productive Development Program, and will be executed by Fundación Chile and Grupo Singular.

To identify relevant information that serves as a basis for public efforts and instruments to develop suppliers in the green hydrogen industry, the Ministry of Economy has commissioned an analysis of gaps and opportunities for suppliers.

This study will be conducted by Fundación Chile and Grupo Singular, with results expected by the end of this year.

Aintzane Lorca, Head of the Sustainable Productive Development Division at the Ministry of Economy, Development, and Tourism, highlighted the importance of this information for the territorial advancement of the green hydrogen sector.

“This study aims to identify the challenges and shortcomings of the suppliers necessary for the sustainable growth of this industry at both the regional and national levels. The acquired knowledge will be crucial in guiding public policy instruments in collaboration with organizations such as Corfo and Sercotec, thereby improving the network of local suppliers dedicated to this sector and fostering the development of the most promising segments within the value chain,” added Lorca.

Data and Analysis

The research will consider existing studies and will be enriched with new data and analysis, systematically organizing the information through specific evaluations of the industry segments with the highest potential for the development of local suppliers in the Magallanes Region and Chilean Antarctic, as well as at the national level.

The consultancy will be carried out in two phases. Andrés Labbé, Director of Green Hydrogen Investments at Fundación Chile, explained that the initial phase “focuses on identifying essential requirements and assessing suppliers for the advancement of the green hydrogen industry in Magallanes.”

“We will conduct a survey to collect information on the necessary services and inputs, using interviews and other data collection methods to understand the needs of companies involved in projects in Magallanes for the effective establishment of the industry.”

For the comprehensive evaluation of local and national suppliers, the foundational reference will be the study “Production Chains of the Green Hydrogen Industry and Derivatives in Magallanes and the Chilean Antarctic,” commissioned by the German international cooperation agency GIZ and the Ministry of Energy of Chile in 2023.

The research will be closely associated with the Transforma H2V Magallanes Program, supervised by the Regional Directorate of CORFO Magallanes in collaboration with the Regional Government.

The final phase of the research involves a detailed evaluation of suppliers within the value chain of the emerging energy sector, identifying deficiencies in four segments that exhibit the greatest growth potential in the region.
